SUR DE CHILE COÑARIPE PANGUIPULLI PIRIHUEICO
From Coñaripe to Pirihueco.
During this years April I alongside with the Agrupación Turística Emprendedores de Peumo, visited Coñaripe, on the Panguipulli commune, on the west side of the Calafquen Lake. It is beautiful town which you can visit at any time of the year, although you have to consider the winter, that can proove to be very tough, and welcome you with heavy snowfalls. Nevertheless, in this opportunity we were welcomed by a soft and gentle rain, that gave way to a spectacular sun.
The Coñaripe sorroundings are full of touristic attractions, one of the main touristic zones are the Geometrical Hot Springs (Termas Geométricas in local language), a marvellous landscape, but a little expensive. Another remarkable place is called Liquiñe, where you can find a group of campings, hot springs (with very accesible prices) and lots of chilean restaurants, many of them with Mapuche roots. And it is worth to visit them all! So I strongly recommend to stay no less than 10 days, so you can visit every attraction in the area. But, in case you want to buy handicraft products, be aware of the prices, they are not displayed.

But I want to stop in one visit that we did to the Pirihueico Lake. To go there from Coñaripe, we had to depart early in the morning and enter in the Cordillera and take an asphalt road between beautiful hills and huge oaks, oregon pines and a rich endemic flora. In our case we were very lucky, for we could see along all the way, beautiful copihues, the Chilean national flower, climbing almost every tree.
The trip goes between amazing places, like Neltume, that exceeds the touristic attention, and brings you closer to the recent history of our country (be sure you don’t miss the Museo de la Memoria de Neltume).
Another place is Puerto Fuy, at the feet of the Mocho Chushuenco Volcano, which not so long ago was a natural sky slope, with and all year able snow, reggretably nowadays, it is no longer like and you can ride it just during the winter sunny days.
In Puerto Fuy you can also find the Hua Hum Boat, that sails 26 kilometers inside the lake, sorrounded by a natural reserve of native forest joining Puerto Fuy and Puerto Pirihueco (just 11 kilometers from the Argentian border). The boat has his well stablished schedule and allows booking (strongly recommended, if not you may be trapped in Puerto Pirihueco, forcing you to stay until next day). Another point to take into account is to always carry cash with you, because the most spreaded system allows only allows you to retrieve money from Cajas Vecinas of BancoEstado.
